Former NFL kicker viewed Vegas illusionists as threat

A former pro football player accused of shooting at the compound of Siegfried & Roy wanted to "warn the world" of the threat posed by the illusionists, according to a psychiatric report. The evaluation was performed by psychiatrist Norton Roitman after Cole Ford was charged with firing several shotgun blasts at the Las Vegas home of entertainers Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn.
Cole Ford

Ford, 32, a former kicker for the Oakland Raiders, has been ruled incompetent to stand trial and sent to a mental health facility for treatment. Ford maintained he never intended to harm anyone and his actions were intended to "warn the world of the illusionists' unhealthy danger to them and to animals," according to the report published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. There really isn't a lot I can add to this. I'm as in the dark as you are. I guess Al Davis got to this guy after all?? FULL story here.

Another Pope Story? Yes My Son!! Pope Lotto

Grief or no grief, many Italian lottery addicts are looking to the late Pope John Paul for their lucky number. Across the Roman Catholic country, punters are rushing to lotto sellers and gambling on numbers linked to the Polish Pontiff in the belief those digits are now lucky, a betting news agency said. "Since this morning there are many, many bets on the numbers of the Pope," the agency, AGICOS, said. The most popular numbers are 21 and 37, corresponding to the time of death (21:37 local), the number 2 after the day of the Pope's death on April 2, and 84, his age at death. Italians have long been dedicated gamblers and in 2004 they spent 23 billion euros ($30 billion) on betting games, up 38 percent from 2003.   Yahoo.com

Braylon Edwards - NFL Draft Preview

Mark Clayton of Oklahoma played in the past two National Championship games. Troy Williamson of South Carolina is one of the draft's fastest rising prospects. But in a WR class consisting of talent and depth, former Michigan standout Braylon Edwards (pictured) is the top prospect.
Edwards

We think he'll go #4. to the CHICAGO BEARS. Ignoring the Michigan-to-Chicago path that failed with David Terrell, the Bears try again for a receiver and the 6'3", 206-pound Edwards is a dynamic playmaker. He needs to improve his consistency and concentration to avoid the drops, but his upside as a playmaker and true number one receiving threat makes him worthy of this selection. Edwards caught 97 passes for 1330 yards and 15 touchdowns with the Wolverines in 2004. He will be a great partner for newly signed Muhsin Muhammad.

Horse Racing

Lets get at it shall we? Ever wanted to know how the whole horse race gambling thing worked? Well now is your chance to learn. Check back over the next week for our updating lesson in how to gamble on the horses.

Part 4 - Daily Double

The daily double involves picking the winning horse in two consecutive races. All tracks offer the early daily double which involves races #1 and #2. Most tracks also offer a late daily double which is the last two races of the day. Some tracks also offer a rolling daily double which is on any two consecutive races. To win a daily double you must pick the winning horse in each of the two races. Combination bets can also be made on daily doubles.Daily

Double Wheel

When you are confident of a horse winning either of these two races but are uncertain of the outcome of the other race, especially if the horse in which you are confident has good to excellent odds, you might want to consider the daily double wheel. In this bet you bet your key horse with all the horses in the other race. Your key horse might be in either of the two races. Tell the clerk EX. ($2 Daily Double wheel the 5 with ALL) if you are confident in the #5 horse winning the first of the two races. But if your key horse is the #3 in the second of the two races tell the clerk i.e. ($2 Daily Double wheel ALL with 3). The formula for calculating the cost of the daily double wheel is simply the number of horses in the race other than the race containing your key horse, times the dollar value of your bet.

EXAMPLE: The race other than the race containing your key horse has 10 horses and you wish to make a $2 bet. (2 x 10 = $20)

Daily Double Part-Wheel

The daily double part-wheel bet is a further refinement of the daily double wheel bet. This allows you to exercise your handicapping skills to eliminate all horses that you think will not win the race. This will reduce the size of your investment.

EXAMPLE: As in the example in the daily double wheel above you have a key horse in one race and 10 horses in the other race. But you have decided that only five of the 10 horses have a chance of winning their race. So, by doing a daily double part wheel, you have one horse in combination with five horses and if you wish to bet a $2 bet your cost would be (2 x 5 = $10). You just saved yourself $10 over the full wheel bet and hopefully you did not throw out the winning horse. If for example, you decided that the #5 horse will win the first race of the double and that either horses #2, #4, #5, #8 or #9 will win the second race of the double you would tell the clerk i.e. ($2 Daily Double Part Wheel 5 with 2, 4, 5, 8, 9). NOTE: A $10 daily double part wheel (5 with 2,4,5,8,9) would cost (10 x 5 = $50).

Fans at Soccer Game in Scotland Jeer Pope

Well if this just doesn't bring a smirk to your face then I guess your catholic (I am) but I'm still smirking. I must be weird. Over the weekend fans at a Scottish Cup soccer game jeered during a minute's silence for Pope John Paul II on Sunday, forcing the tribute to be cut short. The booing by Hearts fans came before the semifinal against Celtic, which has mostly Catholic fans. Referee Stuart Dougal ended the memorial less than halfway through because of the noise. The game was televised in Britain and overseas. Hearts chief executive Phil Anderton criticized the fans' conduct and apologized to Celtic and the Scottish Football Association. Network.com

Tiger ends slump in majors with Masters' playoff

Tiger Woods is the Masters champion again, turning back a surprising challenge Sunday with a shot of sheer magic and a birdie putt to win a playoff he never expected.

A spectacular finish of birdies and bogeys finally ended when Woods produced the most important shot of all — a 15-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to capture his fourth green jacket and finally put away the gritty Chris DiMarco.

Woods knew it was over when the ball was a foot from the hole, taking two steps to the left as a smile broke out on his face and his right fist punched the air with fury.

Everything else about this Masters was up in the air to the very end. ESPN.com
