Texas Tech Wins A thriller in Double OT over #2 KU
Texas Tech Upsets #2 KU

Someone in the Big 12 finally gives Kansas a run for their money. Darryl Dora hits a 3-pointer with four seconds left in double overtime and Texas Tech's so far ugly season gets a makeover with an 80-79 win over the second-ranked Jayhawks. Coach Knight is the man left smiling after the game as the sellout crowd in Lubbock came pouring onto the court following the missed 3 pointer by KU with 3 seconds left in double Overtime.

Game Summary -

All season, Tech has received little attention. It didn't climb into the rankings and most of its players were relatively unknown. In part because they're either new or played in the shadows of former star Andre Emmett. And, in part, because Knight commands so much attention himself. Well - They are here to stay now. Mark my words.

NHL - Deadline Day....but wait??!!

Well just when we thought the season was it? Secret meetings held late on Monday let us know the players finally gave in "a little" and made an offer including a salary cap. The No. 1 issue that has plagued the NHL lockout went out the window Monday night when the NHL Players' Association offered a deal that included a $52-million US salary cap. But the deal was rejected by the NHL. The surprising move was made by NHLPA senior director Ted Saskin during his secret meeting with NHL executive vice-president Bill Daly in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Why Sports Gambling??

Why choose sports gambling over other forms of gambling? Putting aside the entertainment factor, there is one simple reason. You have a better chance of winning consistently.
Over the long term, most casino games cannot be beat. If you play long enough, you will lose. The possible exceptions are poker, which involves elements of skill and psychology, and blackjack for those who are skilled at counting cards.

Sports gambling offers a unique skill based opportunity for winning. Sports betting essentially involves two opposing bets by individuals with the sportsbook acting as a sort of broker. The sportsbook makes its money from the broker fees - the "juice" - and will adjust the odds and betting lines up or down to try and assure a roughly equal number of bettors on both sides of any proposition.

The individual bettor is pitting his judgment on the outcome of an event against the judgment of another bettor. By doing your homework before making a bet, you can directly increase the chances of winning your bets - particularly over the long run.

Jose Is Getting Hung Out To Dry!!

Yesterday on sports talk shows all over the nation the nature of the beast has reared its ugly head. People are calling for the head of Jose Canseco. Dave Stewart former A's teammate even said "I never knew Jose to be a liar, but I'm not sure about this one." Baseball fans already reeling from all the steroid talk don't quite know what to make of this latest debacle.

By the time Jose Canseco retired in 2000, his ability to slam tape-measure home runs, steal bases and pack stadiums had helped him collect annual salaries worth a combined $45 million (all figures U.S.).

Five years on, Canseco has discovered a new pastime as a tell-all author. In Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big, a book released yesterday, Canseco contends that he personally injected steroids with several of baseball's top stars, including his former Oakland teammate Mark McGwire.

Canseco has been roundly vilified for his claims.

"He's hurting for money and he needs to make a score," former Oakland manager Tony La Russa told The New York Times. "How bad must his life be to drive him to betray teammates, to sacrifice friendships for the almighty dollar?" asked The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Helping the blind watch football

More and more German Bundesliga clubs have introduced programmes that allow blind - or partially blind - football fans to enjoy matches in the stadiums.

Trained commentators transmit running commentary for fans with special needs via headphones that are supplied by the clubs and allow the fans to partake in all the action: Who has the ball, who is substituted or what is written on the scoreboard. Bayer Leverkusen was the first club to offer the service in 1999. The then head of the football section of the club, Kurt Vossen, introduced the programme after being asked to do so by a nationwide association of blind or partially blind fans called "Sehhunde" (Seedogs).

The club now has 12 places reserved for blind fans.

Poker Basics
Poker games are generally played with a standard deck of 52 cards. A standard deck consists of of thirteen different ranks of cards, and they are: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Each of these cards comes in four different suits: Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades.
Poker games involve rounds of betting into a common fund, or "pot", and rounds of replacing/receiving cards. The number of betting rounds and card draws depends on the particular variation of the game you are playing. Action proceeds in a clockwise direction.

Generally betting begins with players making an "Ante" or a "Blind Bet" (called so because the player bets without having seen their cards). During the remaining betting rounds, players will take one of the following actions:

Check - if there is not bet already on the table, the player may in essence bet 0, and pass the action on to the next player.

Call - if there is a bet on the table, the player may choose to match the bet.

Bet or Raise - if there were no bets on the table, the player places one by betting. If there was a bet on the table, the player may increase the bet by raising.

Fold - the player does not choose to match the bet on the table, and they forfeit any chance at winning the pot. They also surrender their cards.

At the end of the game, the highest hand wins.

Tomorrow Hand Strength (what deck beats what)

Supermodels aren't the only ones posing for Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue.

In addition to 20 models, Olympic medallists Jennie Finch, Amanda Beard and Lauren Jackson, retired slugger Mark McGwire and wife Stephanie, and tennis star Venus Williams are included in the edition that hit newsstands Tuesday.

Finch was a star pitcher on the gold medal U.S. Olympic softball team. The former University of Arizona star pitched two shutouts at the Athens Olympics.

Beard won the 200-metre breaststroke in Athens. Jackson, the WNBA scoring leader and 2003 MVP as a member of the Seattle Storm, won a silver medal with the Australian team in Athens.

Other male athletes in the magazine include Miami Dolphins quarterback A.J. Feeley and his girlfriend, Heather Mitts, a member of the U.S. women's soccer team; New Jersey Nets forward Richard Jefferson and his girlfriend; and Dallas Cowboys receiver Keyshawn Johnson and his wife.

Williams posed for the swimsuit issue for the first time. Her sister, Serena, appeared in the 2003 and '04 issues.
