The Combine Begins - NFL 2005-06 Underway

Scouting Combine
NFL Scouting Combine is essentially "the beginning of the 2005 season". Well then, consider the season underway!

The NFL combine allows select NFL Head Coaches & General Managers to sneak a peak at the upcoming college talent pool.

The combine began in full earnest Thursday with punters, kickers, and half of the offensive lineman and running backs first up in the lineup of position players taking part at the RCA Dome in downtown Indianapolis. Players were thoroughly checked out by at least one doctor from each of the 32 NFL teams, including height, weight, x-rays and specific tests on players who have had various injuries. The players also participated in the 225-pound bench press, and will later begin meeting with teams that have an interest in their services.

On Saturday, these same players will begin a barrage of on-field tests, including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 3-cone drill. On Friday, the remaining offensive linemen and running backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers will begin the process, followed by defensive linemen and tight ends on Saturday and defensive backs and linebackers on Sunday. A total of 330 players have been invited to this year's combine. While tests such as the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and Wunderlic written exam get most of the attention, the job of the team doctors is of utmost importance.

Mavs Knock Off The Kings

Chris Webber

Chris Webber finally left Sacramento -- and for a whole lot less than a King's ransom.

So it came down to this, the Kings vs the Mavs without their man C-Webb in the lineup.

Mike Bibby and Cuttino Mobley each scored 26 for the Kings, who spoke earlier in the day about needing to forge a new identity -- whatever that will be -- without their best player.

Nowitzky got on a roll versus the Kings Thursday night.

The Sacramento Kings were doing just fine in their first game without Chris Webber, until Dirk Nowitzki took over.

Nowitzki scored 17 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and Michael Finley hit two clutch three-pointers in the closing minutes, rallying the Dallas Mavericks to a 122-113 victory over Sacramento on Thursday night in a matchup of teams left short-handed following the trade deadline. Dallas, which played just eight players and lost one to an injury late in the third quarter, trailed 98-89 with 9:02 left before going on a 13-2 run. Nowitzki put them ahead for good on a short jumper with 4:39 to go, then Josh Howard followed with a dunk in transition that turned into a three-point play. Finley stretched the Mavs' lead to 112-107, then hit another three-pointer with 1:42 left to make it 117-110. Sacramento never got closer than four again.

Accenture Match Play Championship

They finally got started playing in California despite the brutal weather that state is having. The pros were relieved as were the avid golf nuts and betters out there.
Lefty Got It Done On Thusday at the World MatchPlay Championships
Lefty rolled to a victory in round 1.

Accenture Match Play Championship Results of the Top Seeds.

Singh won, 4&3 Like you expected anything less? The world's No. 1 player -- for now, anyway -- made quick work of Katayama, taking two of the first three holes.

Goosen won, 1 up Leaney has made a habit of finishing well in one big American event every year -- he made the semifinals here a year ago and was T-2 at the '03 U.S. Open -- but the solid Goosen was just too much.

Upset of the Day - Triplett defeated World Number 6 Mike Weir of Canada, 1 up. Weir has played well in the past two weeks, while Triplett's name hasn't been seen on a leaderboard in a while. This match was even through 10 holes, but Weir made costly bogeys on 12 and 14 that would ultimately be his undoing.

Tiger Woods defeated Nick Price. 4&3 - Price spoke a lot about enjoying the underdog role and there was a lot of talk around La Costa of a potential upset here. Instead it was just another day at the office for Tiger.

Mickelson def. Loren Roberts 3&1. Roberts is known as the Boss of the Moss, but Mickelson is actually the better putter these days. The reigning Masters champ made six birdies, including three of the first four holes on the back nine

The 2005 NFL Draft - Consensus First Round Picks

PacMan

Adam Jones, CB, West Virginia

Everyday right here you can preview the top picks for this years big college football entry draft into the the big boys league........the NFL of course. Lets get at it. Adam Jones, CB, West Virginia.....Could we see him go #3 to the Cleveland Browns?

"Pac Man" appears to be the top corner in the draft, and the Browns are faced with the prospect of losing free agent Anthony Henry, so a replacement is needed. Though undersized at 5'10", 190 pounds, Jones is aggressive and led the Mountainers in tackles with 69, adding two sacks, three interceptions and seven passes defended. He's also an electric punt returner, averaging 14.8 yards per return in 2004. You have to think Romeo Crennel the new coach at Cleveland is thinking Defense with this bunch wouldn't you?

Michigan St. Badgers

Michigan St are 8.5 point favorites. Michigan State has lost 12 straight games against ranked opponents, and six straight against Big Ten-rival Wisconsin.

The 10th-ranked Spartans (19-4, 10-2) will try to end both skids when they host the 20th-ranked Badgers (17-6, 8-4) at the Breslin Center on Thursday. The Spartans have won five straight and nine of 10, including a 68-57 victory at Purdue on Saturday. Their only loss during the stretch was against No. 1 Illinois. Alan Anderson and Maurice Ager each scored 12 points and Michigan State limited the Boilermakers to 36.8 percent shooting. Michigan State has not beaten Wisconsin since Feb. 27, 2001, with four of the six games since decided by four points or fewer. Before the Badgers' recent win streak in the series, the Spartans had won 12 of 13 matchups.

Wisconsin, idle since a 76-50 win against Michigan on Feb. 16, is opening a stretch of three games in six days. The Badgers visit Ohio State on Sunday, and then host Indiana on Tuesday before closing the regular season against Purdue on March 5. " At this time of the year, you're trying to stay sharp," Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said. "We know what we have coming up. We know the caliber of the teams we're playing." Mike Wilkinson led the Badgers with 22 points and nine points against the Wolverines. Zach Morley had 12 points, and Alando Tucker and Ray Nixon added 10 each.

Some trends to consider:
Wisconsin are 1-7-0 OU in their last 8 away
Wisconsin are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games
Wisconsin are 4-2-0 OU in their last 6 games
Wisconsin are 5-1-0 ATS in their last 6 games against Michigan St
Michigan St are 5-0-0 ATS in their last 5 games
Michigan St are 10-4-0 ATS in their last 14 home games
Michigan St are 3-8-0 OU in their last 11 games
Michigan St are 1-5-0 ATS in their last 6 games against Wisconsin

Seahawks Finally Hire The President (GM)

Paul Allen

I absolutly love this time of year. You really get a feel for which NFL team really wants to begin the long drive to capturing the next SuperBowl don't you??

Paul Allen says a teams success "hinges on the executives you bring in."

Seahawks owner Paul Allen, right, introduced Tim Ruskell, left, as the team's president yesterday.

Allen has put a good deal of trust in team CEO Tod Leiweke; and, not surprisingly, things have improved dramatically. Ruskell seems to be a solid hire, coming with the endorsement of Falcons GM Rich McKay, the architect behind Tampa Bay's 2003 Super Bowl winner. It also looks like Ruskell will attempt to keep Seahawks salary-cap expert Mike Reinfeldt, which is important. Reinfeldt knows Holmgren well, has been around for enough of the bad times to understand how poisoned the atmosphere was and is known as a shrewd negotiator who will not ruin the team's salary cap.

Walter Jones and Matt Hasselbeck have recently been signed by Reinfeldt, this might open some eyes at Seahawks headquarters as players decide what they want to do in free agency.

Ultimately Paul Allen chose Rich McKay's way. It wasn't the way the Seahawks had been doing it, and that alone makes this move good.

DUI OF THE DAY - Judge OKs lottery winner's DUI charge

Hilarious....dude wins the jackpot and goes on a bender. So the judge agreed to allow a drunken driving charge to be refiled against a man who won nearly $315 million in the Powerball lottery - the largest single jackpot in history. Jack Whittaker was arrested for alleged drunken driving in December, two days after being released on bail in another DUI arrest.

A judge later dismissed the second charge because prosecutors failed to bring a state police chemist to a pretrial hearing. In response to a petition from prosecutors, Circuit Judge Duke Bloom ruled Tuesday that the charges can be refiled. But he said the case cannot include evidence relating to a breath test. Whittaker, 57, could face 10 days in jail if convicted of bail violation.

More Great Poker Tips For Newbie Poker Players

Our Top 5 Favorite Poker Players

Daniel Negreanu doesn’t just finish well in WPT events, he wins almost all poker tournaments these days. Next time I write this list, Daniel will be much higher up in the list because he is on fire this year. Daniel is originally from Canada, but is a well known pro that lives and plays high stakes games in Las Vegas. He combines aggressive play with spectacular opponent reading ability, he’s the real deal, a true poker superstar. If you can find tips from Daniel write them down and apply them to your game, because they quite clearly work.

Phil Ivey is called the “Tiger Woods” of Poker for obvious reasons. Phil is probably the most famous poker player on WPT along with Gus Hanson. He’s a spectacular player to watch, and like Gus is a high limit cash game player in California and Vegas. It’s a bit surprising that Phil hasn’t won a WPT event yet, although he’s been on 3 final tables. He’s for real though, he won THREE gold bracelets in the 2002 WSOP, which is just ridiculous. The cash games he plays requires a bankroll of one million dollars. So, again, if you see Phil at a poker table, just walk away!

Howard Lederer is another WPT fixture, having won two WPT events and finishing 3rd on another final table. He’s called “The Professor”, because he’s real smart-like. He used to be a chess master (haven’t we all) and turned poker professional, which was clearly a smart move. Howard is a very cerebral player, always taking time to think about a play.

Phil Gordon is another rich guy getting richer story. Like Paul Phillips, Phil made $100 million during the dot com boom, and retired at 27, after graduating from college when he was 20…. Sigh! Oh well, at least Phil is a nice guy, and a great poker player. Phil has made two WPT final tables, and won them both!

Gus Hansen has won THREE World Poker Tour events, and has made five final tables to date with his ultra-aggressive style. If you think poker doesn’t involve skill you are way off base. Gus Hansen, originally from Denmark, is not only a world class tournament player, but you can also find him playing the highest limit games in Las Vegas. Before you laugh at him playing 57 offsuit, pickup a book called Super System by Doyle Brunson, and learn why this can be a great strategy for advanced poker players.

In Craps there are many different ways to bet. They can be divided into three general categories:

Basic Bets
Basic Bets are the most basic and popular of the betting options and the easiest to understand.
Odds Bets
These are additional bets that cane be made after the shooter establishes a Point. Odds bets are excellent wagers for the player. You can lose more, but you can also increase your winnings. By taking or laying these odds the player reduces the casino's advantage.
One Roll Bets
These wagers are decided on one roll of the dice. One roll, the next roll, will decide if you win or lose. A further variation is that players can bet with the shooter or with the house (against the shooter).
