Poker Room Of The Week

The online poker room, PartyPoker, is the world's largest poker room, advertising over 40,000 players online actively playing. PartyPoker.com has been online since 2001, is licenced and regulated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, is easy, safe and secure, offers prompt payouts and lots of games (Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo) at many different limits. You may make your deposit in PartyPoker via money transfer, wire transfer, Neteller, FirePay, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, PartyPoker's own affiliate IGM-Pay/Pay-Pro, or Citadel Commerce, so you have plenty of options.

PartyPoker.com's cashouts can be via check, IGM-PAY, which performs a direct deposit into your checking or savings account, or Neteller. PartyPoker does not charge for deposits or withdrawals, but the financial service (ie - your credit card) may charge you service fees.

So depositing and withdrawing is very quick and simple. I personally make my deposit with my Visa debit card and make my withdrawals using IGM-Pay, directly depositing back into that same checking account.

So PartyPoker offers Limit, Pot-Limit, and No-Limit Texas Hold'em games. The stakes for pot-limit and no-limit range from a $25 max buy-in, up to $200. The limit Texas hold'em games have a range of $0.5/1 up to $30/60, with plenty of players at just about all stakes. Our Online Review is Here.

Nascar Update

Gordon

NASCAR goes for a Gotham theme on Sunday, June 19th when the drivers of the Nextel Cup Series take to the track at Michigan International Speedway in the Batman Begins 400.

Last weekend, Carl Edwards won in a green-white-checker finish, holding off Brian Vickers to take the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Joe Nemechek, Kyle Bush, and Michael Waltrip rounded out the top five. Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, and Jamie McMurray made up the rest of the top 10.

The win moved Edwards up five places in the drivers standings to fourth, behind Johnson, Greg Biffle, and Elliott Sadler. Martin, Ryan Newman, Harvick, Rusty Wallace, Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, and McMurray are the rest of the current contenders for the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

Biffle and Newman won at Michigan International Speedway in 2004, while Newman and Kurt Busch picked up victories on the track in 2003. Gordon, Martin, Wallace, Dale Jarrett, and Bobby Labonte each have multiple Michigan wins in their career.

On Sunday, June 26th, the drivers of NASCAR head to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California for the Dodge/Save Mart 350.

The US Open at Pinehurst

United States Golf Association, Golf House, Far Hills, NJ
105 United States Open Championship
Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina

PAR AND YARDAGE – Pinehurst’s No. 2 Course is set up at 7,214 yards and plays to a par of 35-35—70.

ARCHITECT – All 18 holes of this Donald Ross masterpiece were opened in 1907 at 5,870 yards. The first nine holes were completed in 1901. Ross would fine-tune the layout several times through 1946. More recently, Rees Jones did renovations prior to the 1999 U.S. Open there. In 2004, bunkering was repaired and the course was lengthened by about 100 yards.

U.S. OPEN PHILOSOPHY– The USGA intends to make the U.S. Open the most rigorous, yet fair, examination of golf skills, testing all forms of shot-making. The USGA prepares the course after careful consideration of 14 different factors. The complete philosophy statement can be found on www.usopen.com.

DISTANCE – This layout is 92 yards more than was laid out for the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst (7,122 yards in 1999).

HARDEST HOLES FROM 1999 – The hardest holes of the 1999 Championship proved to be numbers 5, 8 and 16, all par 4s. Hole 5, a 482-yarder, played to an average of 4.54 followed by the 16th, a 489-yarder, at 4.50. The easiest hole was the fourth, a 566-yard par 5, which averaged 4.92 strokes. For 2005, the fifth hole will play 10 yards shorter while three yards have been added to the 16th hole.

COURSE INFORMATION – The No. 2 Course at Pinehurst has 52 fairway bunkers, 57 greenside bunkers and one water hazard (on hole 16). The average size of the greens is 6,000 square feet, about what the players see weekly on the PGA Tour.

2004 CHAMPION – Retief Goosen used just 11 putts over the final nine holes and withstood a challenge from Phil Mickelson to win his second U.S. Open title, by two strokes, with a 4-under-par 276. Goosen began the final round with a two-shot lead over Mickelson and Ernie Els. But, when Els fell off the pace early, it became a two-man race. Goosen led by three after he birdied the 11th and Mickelson bogeyed the 12th just ahead. But Mickelson birdied three of the next four holes to take a momentary one-stroke lead as he headed to the 17th tee. Goosen joined Mickelson at 4 under par when he also birdied the par-5 16th. But, Mickelson three-putted the par-3 17th for double bogey and Goosen safely parred the final two holes for the win. His final round of 1-over-par 71 was the second best score of the day. His 69 on Saturday was the third best of the day.

Tyson Quits - Rome's Rant

So, is this how it ends for Mike Tyson? Who would have imaged the formerly nastiest man on the planet, would quit after six rounds against Kevin McBride? Or was it Kevin Gilbride? At least I've heard of Gilbride and he didn’t quit in that brawl he had with Buddy Ryan.

Tyson has been called a lot of things, but never a quitter; until now. Mike didn’t want to be there Saturday night. Even his head-buts and attempts to break McBride’s arm were half-hearted. He didn’t even try to bite the guy. Not once did he threaten to eat McBride's children. You could tell by looking at Tyson, that he had no intention to make McBride his girlfriend either.

Bottom Line: As sorry as the heavyweight division is, we’re all going to have to find someone else to save it, because Tyson is finished. He has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and while I can deal with him not being competitive, the one thing I can’t handle is him not being interesting.

Mike, I thought you were going to gut him like fish, not quit after the sixth round.

MLB Game of the Day

Diamondbacks (34-31) at White Sox (42-21)
Tuesday, June 14, 2005 8:05:00 PM EDT
Field - Natural Grass of U.S. Cellular Field
Chi White Sox are 100 money line underdogs. The total for this game has been set at 9.

Coming off an 8-1 loss in their last game, Chicago assigns the task of getting back on the winning track to Orlando Hernandez Tuesday at home.

The Diamondbacks start Javier Vazquez, 6-4, 4.39 ERA. His last trip was a win, a 4-3 team win against the Twins, when he threw 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. The righty last threw against the White Sox on April 21, 2004 coming away with a win. He allowed 5 hits in 8 innings, giving up 1 in that one.

The NBA Finals

nba finalsThe NBA Finals are shifting to Detroit. The Pistons have to find a way for the momentum to shift as well. In the first two games at San Antonio, the Pistons did not make shots, had no plan of containment for Spurs guard Manu Ginobili and repeatedly lost their cool - not exactly what PA announcer John Mason would call "DEE-troit BASS-ket-ball." In fact, several Spurs seem almost perplexed by how easy it has been to dispatch the defending champions in Games One and Two. They have held huge double-digit leads in both games and have yet to allow 80 points.

San Antonio (59-23) at Detroit (54-28)
Tuesday, June 14, 2005 9:00:00 PM EDT
at Palace of Auburn Hills
Detroit are 4 point favorites. The total for this game has been set at 171.

Some trends to consider:
Spurs are 2-5-0 OU in their last 7 games against the Pistons
Spurs are 6-12-0 ATS in their last 18 away games
Spurs are 3-5-1 ATS in their last 9 games after scoring 90 to 100 points
Spurs are 7-3-0 OU in their last 10 games
Pistons are 11-4-0 SU in their last 15 games after scoring less than 90 points
Pistons are 4-2-0 OU in their last 6 at home
Pistons are 4-2-0 ATS in their last 6 home games
Pistons are 2-5-0 OU in their last 7 games against the Spurs

NBA Mock Draft

Milwaukee Bucks - Andrew Bogut, PF , Utah (7'0", 242 lbs.)
Despite their poor record in 2004-05, the Bucks should be just a healthy T.J. Ford and re-signed Michael Redd away from respectability. Andrew Bogut is coming off a great season at Utah and should be able to step right in and contribute at centre.

2. Atlanta Hawks - Chris Paul, PG, Wake Forest (6'0", 175 lbs.)
Chris Paul is one of the more highly touted point guard prospects in years - seemingly able to do everything, but his size is his one area of concern. A team with glaring needs at centre and point guard, GM Billy Knight picks the best available player at one of those positions. They will likely use free agency to try and add a centre.

3. Portland Trail Blazers - Marvin Williams, SF, North Carolina (6'9", 230 lbs.)
Portland's most glaring need is shooting guard, but there isn't one worth picking this high in the draft that can help them next year. Marvin Williams may have the most pro potential of any player in the draft and could be too much for the Blazers to pass up.

4. New Orleans Hornets - Gerald Green, SG/SF, Texas HS (6'8", 200 lbs.)
Like any athletic high school wing man, Gerald Green's game gets compared to Tracy McGrady's. While that is a gross overstatement at this point, he is a high flyer that boasts star potential - an area where the Hornets are sorely lacking.

5. Charlotte Bobcats - Deron Williams, PG, Illinois (6'3", 210 lbs.)
Though Brevin Knight did a solid job last year, the Bobcats would like a long-term solution at the point and Deron Williams is the best one left on the board. Williams is a big, strong point guard that plays great defence and should be able to contribute right away.

6. Utah Jazz - Fran Vazquez, PF, Spain (6'10", 235)
Fran Vazquez is the most NBA-ready of the Europeans and should help the Jazz frontcourt rotation right away. He needs to get stronger to play power forward in North America, but is a skilled and well-rounded player.

7. Toronto Raptors - Chris Taft, PF/C, Pittsburgh (6'10", 250 lbs.)
Though it is too early to completely write off Rafael Araujo, the Raptors need help in the paint soon and Taft can give them that. Taft is big, strong and very athletic, but doesn't always look like he's giving 100%, which could rub Raptor fans the wrong way.

8. New York Knicks - Danny Granger, SF, New Mexico (6'8", 215 lbs.)
Danny Granger is a versatile player that played power forward in college, but figures to be an effective-rebounding small forward in the NBA. The Knicks could use more size, but Granger - who played four years of college basketball - should be an immediate upgrade over Tim Thomas.

9. Golden State Warriors - Charlie Villanueva, F, Connecticut (6'11", 230 lbs.)
Charlie Villanueva is able to play all three front court positions. He's a very talented player, but can be a little passive at times. He won't have to play a lot of minutes in his rookie year, but could be a nice option as a reserve.

10. Los Angeles Lakers - Raymond Felton, PG, North Carolina (6'1", 190 lbs.)
Raymond Felton is a confident floor general who will add speed to the Lakers' up-tempo attack. The Lakers need to get better at the point and Felton's improved jump shot this season at North Carolina will make his transition to the pros easier.
