The Labatt Brier - Canada's Curling ...I mean booze Championships
Curling in Canada
Catch all the Curling Coverage you need right here at in Canada.

Are you kidding me? Canadian love their beer eh??

"We're ready to look after the partiers,'' said Brier vice-president Ken MacRae, who's heading up the two canadian curling championships for men and women. "There's a lot of booze sitting here.''

Enough that they expect to break all Brier Patch sales (name of beer garden) records before all is said and done and drunk. "We've sold more tickets than ever before so we're pretty sure we'll sell more (booze) than we've ever sold before,'' said MacRae. "We're looking about about $1 million in sales over the 10 days.''

In addition to the 14,000 dozen beers from Labatt's, the company is also shipping in 250 kegs for the thirsty fans at Rexall Place. There's too much alcohol to store it all on site, but two refrigeration trucks will be stocked to the roof outside the Patch and Purple Heart.

Don Cherry's Take on the NHL Lockout

Don Cherry
Don Cherry tells it like he sees every week during the first intermission of Hockey Night in Canada. He is a Canadian Idol.

Spurred on by his wife and others, Cherry has translated his notoriety into a veritable industry. He has lent his name to a successful series of hockey highlights videos, two volumes of hockey-themed music CDs, 19 Don Cherry's Grapevine restaurants and sports bars, a syndicated radio talk show and numerous celebrity endorsements. Of the importance of hockey in his life, he told The Globe and Mail in 2001: "I don't have any hobbies. I don't golf. I don't fish. I have no other interests in life except hockey. I wake up in the morning thinking about it and go to bed thinking about it. This is where I belong." Here's what he's saying now about the NHL lockout.

Replacement players is the most pressing topic of the day in the NHL's 'Cold War,' and it has brought forth some frosty words from former NHL coach and Hockey Night in Canada personality Don Cherry. 'Grapes' told reporters in Edmonton Thursday he believed that if locked out NHL players are taking jobs over in Europe, it should go both ways. "I hope there isn't but if there is and I hear any player criticize a replacement, they're going to get it from me," he said. "Talk about hypocrites. They go over to Europe, 400 of them, and take those jobs. As far as I'm concerned all those guys over there are scabs."

The 2005 NFL Draft - Consensus First Round Picks

Mike Williams

Mike Williams, WR, USC

Everyday right here you can preview the top picks for this years big college football entry draft into the the big boys league........the NFL of course. Lets get at it. Mike Williams, WR, USC.....Could we see him go #9 to the Washington Redskins?

An ill-fated decision to leave school last year cost Mike Williams his eligibility in 2004, but he was just so productive in his first two seasons with the Trojans. At 6'5", 230 pounds, Williams will be a sizeable target and, with Laverneous Coles in the doghouse he could step in to be one of the team's primary receiving threats. When he last played, Williams finished the 2003 season with 95 catches for 1316 yards and 16 touchdowns.

VENUE: Wachovia Center GAME: Cleveland Cavaliers (31-25) at Philadelphia 76ers (27-30). TIME: Friday, 7 p.m. EST.

After just one week in Philadelphia, Chris Webber is already hearing boos from 76ers fans. Coming off his worst game with his new team, Webber will try to win back the crowd at the Wachovia Center when Philadelphia takes on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Acquired from Sacramento in a blockbuster deal prior to last week's trade deadline, Webber managed just 10 points in the Sixers' 99-93 loss to New Jersey on Wednesday - Philadelphia's third straight home defeat and second in a row since acquiring Webber.

Dan Gilbert's first game as Cavaliers owner was spoiled Wednesday as Cleveland lost 103-86 to Seattle. Gilbert, who sat in a courtside seat for much of the first half, bought the team for $375 million. James scored 32 points, and matched a career high with five 3-pointers for Cleveland. Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 17 points and Jeff McInnis had 16 for the Cavaliers, whose bench was outscored 37-8. Cleveland forward Anderson Varejao re-injured his left ankle at practice Tuesday and didn't dress for the game. His status for Friday's game is uncertain. Varejao was activated Monday after missing 14 games with a high ankle sprain.

Philadelphia are 3 point favorites. The total for this game has been set at 202.

Cavaliers are 1-9-0 ATS in their last 10 away games against the 76ers
Cavaliers are 1-4-0 ATS in their last 5 away games
Cavaliers are 5-12-2 ATS in their last 19 games against the 76ers
Cavaliers are 5-13-0 ATS in their last 18 games after scoring less than 90 points
76ers are 9-1-0 ATS in their last 10 home games against the Cavaliers
76ers are 7-1-0 SU in their last 8 games after scoring 90 to 100 points
76ers are 11-5-0 OU in their last 16 games against the Cavaliers
76ers are 2-4-0 OU in their last 6 games at home against the Cavs

DUI OF THE DAY - DUI charges for cop in fatal crash

Doesn't it seem like every second day here in our Daily DUI spot that its a law enforcement officer that's making the news?? Here we go with another.

A Chicago Police officer was charged with drunken driving Thursday for his involvement in last month's car crash that killed two southwest suburban teenagers. Jason Casper was previously charged with two counts of reckless homicide for the Feb. 12 accident that killed 17-year-old Mohammed Shuaibi of Tinley Park and Ahmad Shaban, 16, of Orland Park. The Calumet District police officer, who is free on a $500,000 bond, was off duty at the time of the incident.

Eight additional counts of aggravated DUI charges were added to Casper's indictment, announced at his court appearance in Bridgeview, Cook County state's attorney spokeswoman Marcy Jensen said. SunTimes

More Great Poker Tips For Newbie Poker Players

Texas Holdem has quickly become the most popular casino poker game. It is currently the game you will see televised in such events as the World Series of Poker and The World Poker Tour. Though Holdem looks and plays very simply, many experts agree that it is the most complex of poker games. Due to its complexity, the game can be kind or harsh to beginners and grizzled old warriors alike. The action is fast an furious, with more players, bets, raises and re-raises than many other typical poker games. Winners win big, losers lose big. These factors are the essence of what makes Texas Holdem so enjoyable, and therefore the King at the Casino.

Over the next few days the following is intended to be a basic introduction to and strategy for playing Texas Holdem online. For more in depth articles on this topic, check out our other articles in the Archives section, or visit our sister site,

This list is set up for the aggressive player. Though its a good list for any player, some more conservatives might have a tighter list. Please note the differences between "suited" and "off-suit". They are off-suit as default unless otherwise noted.

Top Cards:
Ace-Ace (pair of aces)
Ace-King suited

When you're dealt Aces, Kings, or AK suited, you can and should raise and even re-raise before the flop, no matter your position. A pair of queens or jacks you have to be a bit more careful with, but the chances are still huge that you are top hand before the flop. Raise and drive out the draw hands, if there are no raises in front of you.

Strong Cards:
AQ, AJ, A10 (all suited)
AK (off suit or unsuited)
KQ suited
Pair of 10's
KJ, QJ, J10 all suited
Pair of 9's
K10 suited, Q10 suited

Why are these strong? If you notice, all have strong flush or straight draw chances, as well as a high face card. The pairs of 10's or 9's have to be included simply because of the rarity of being dealt a pocket pair, and these being on the high end.

With strong cards, look to raise in middle or late position, only if noone has raised before you. If you raise in middle position and someone in late position re-raises, be careful. If they're a strong player they probably have you beat in card strength unless theyre bluffing to try and take the ante's.

Decent Pocket Cards:
Pair of 8's
Jack-9, 10-9 both suited
Pair of 7's
9-8, 8-7 both suited
Ace and any other suited card
KJ, QJ, J10

Dont bother raising with these cards unless everyone in front of you has folded. Also be careful playing these in middle position. Honestly, you probably want to see the flop as cheaply as possible. These cards can turn into monster hands though, because of their deceptive value. If you have a reputation as a strong player, other players wont be expecting you to make a straight with a 9-8. Another reason to at least play these cards sometimes is to keep yourself from getting a reputation as a "Rock". If you only play nut cards and everytime you raise, everyone else folds, you're missing out on some big bucks.

Barely Playable Pocket Cards
Any pair, 6's and under
Connected suited cards, not shown above (ie. 4-5 suited)
A10, K10, Q10
K9, Q9, both suited

These cards have to have serious help from the board to win. If you can get to the flop cheap it can be worth it though, as these are draw hands to flushes and straights, and you may hit trips with your low pair. These cards can make good bluff hands when you're "on the button," and everyone in front of you has either folded or called the blinds, because they at least hold some potential for a good its not a complete bluff. But be warned. These are "play and pray" cards. In low limit games they might be worth it. But if you play these cards every time, you'll see your chip stack sink fast.

All other cards not mentioned above are complete trash. Fold 'em.

Feel free to print this list and by all means make amendments or trash it and make your own. Keep in mind, card strength is relative and depends on so many other factors. What might be great pocket cards in a tight game, may lose some value in a loose game where 3 people hold on to their trash, hoping for a miracle board, no matter how many times you raise them. Other factors include your position, your total chips vs. your opponents, and the limits of the game.

Preseason MLB Is Set To Start

They’re back. They say they’re healthy. The list of players who, for various reasons, missed out on all the guts and glory that was the 2004 World Series, is long and distinguished. Among the most prominent are shortstop Nomar Garciaparra of the Cubs, White Sox slugger Frank Thomas, prized Diamondbacks acquisition Troy Glaus, Reds center fielder Ken Griffey, Jr., Mariners bopper Richie Sexson, Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, Red Sox right-hander Wade Miller, Diamondbacks left fielder Luis Gonzalez, Yankees first baseman-DH Jason Giambi and Indians third baseman Aaron Boone. For Garciaparra, a two-time batting champ and five-time All-Star, last season was bad before it even started.

The pitchers and catchers reported to Florida and Arizona last week and that means we are only a month away from America’s Pastime-Baseball. Randy Johnson for the Yankees has come up lame with “calf tightness “and will miss his first start in pinstripes. Atlanta’s Tim Hudson has signed a $47 million dollar extension, including a $10 million signing bonus. Let's see how he does this season.

Eva Longoria

FHM - Given the theme of Eva’s new show, it seemed only appropriate that the 29-year-old’s FHM photo shoot involved doing domestic work in her delicates. “It wasn’t a new experience—that’s standard operating procedure in my household,” she says. “Who doesn’t do housework in their underwear?”
