Tagliani joins Walker Racing for 2005

Canadian Racer Alex Tagliani

Some of us race fans are amped about this news. I know I know its not Nascar but personally that sport bores the heck out of me. Now indy cars and formula 1, that's racing. Well anyhow a favorite of mine, Alex Tagliani has landed at Walker Racing for the 2005 Champ Car season.

Owner Derrick Walker confirmed Tagliani will pilot one of two Lola chassis he plans to field this season. The Quebecer will be teammed with Australian rookie Marcus Marshall, who has competed in several European formulae from Formula Renault to F3. "Media speculation had us gone from the series and closing our doors but the reality is we have had the elements of our two car multi-year commitment for nearly two months now," said Walker, who singled out Team Rahal for their help in adapting to the new Lola car. "It takes time to find new sponsor partners. This commitment is clearly an indication of how the series is gaining strength and the renewed interest of companies in the future of the Champ Car World Series." Walker says an announcement concerning sponsorship will be made in the coming weeks.

Time to weigh in on Major League
What a crazy day in congress yesterday. The panelled hearing room was full when the players appeared, with camera crews lining the walls and clogging the aisles, and then much of the crowd cleared out when the players left, leaving empty seats for Selig's testimony.

He said "the extent of steroids in baseball had been blown out of proportion." Hey Bud --- "NO IT HASN'T"!!!

McGwire Some of baseball's biggest stars told Congress on Thursday that steroids are a problem for the sport but denied they are widespread. Mark McGwire refused to say whether he took the performance-enhancing drugs during the historic home run summer of 1998 or any other time. Five current and former players, three of them among the 10 leading home run hitters in history, bemoaned steroids as a problem for their sport but denied the drugs are widely used. Mark McGwire hemmed and hawed, his voice choked with emotion, his eyes nearly filled with tears. Time after time Thursday, he refused to answer the question everyone wanted to know: Did he take illegal steroids when he hit a then-record 70 home runs in 1998 or at any other time? Jose Canseco - whose best-selling book, Juiced, drew lawmakers' attention - and said that he used performance-enhancing drugs as a player. Baltimore Orioles teammates Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro said they haven't. Curt Schilling was also there, and did a pretty good job staying true to form. Schilling took a shot at Canseco, saying claims in the former slugger's book "should be seen for what they are: an attempt to make money at the expense of others." But Schilling also backtracked from his earlier claims of rampant steroid use, saying "the issue was grossly overstated by people, including myself."

All in all I feel thursday was a mixed emotions day for MLB. Where do they go from here is the next question, knowing that nothing was really accomplished yesterday. Will embarresment finally yield results?? has a take on this. Only time will tell I guess?

Everyday right here you can preview the top picks for this years big college football entry draft into the the big boys league........the NFL of course. Lets get at it. Shawne Merriman, LB, Maryland.....Could we see him go #10 to the Cowboys?

A 'tweener who can rush from the end or from the outside linebacker position, Merriman would provide a boost to a Cowboys team that is switching to Bill Parcells' favoured 3-4 defence. A workout warrior, Merriman had 85 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss with the Terps.
