Pierce College

This brings all new meaning to "sliding into home base doesn't it?

How desperate for money is cash-strapped Pierce College? Desperate enough that it rented its baseball field to the X-rated Spice channel cable network for $5,000 to shoot a racy promotional video. The move outraged some students and raised questions about how far colleges should go to raise money. But Pierce officials aren't blushing.

"It's what I would call easy money," Pierce President Tom Oliver said Thursday. The Spice Digital Network used the Joe Kelly baseball diamond on March 7-8 to shoot "photography," the kind Oliver said might be seen in art classes. SignOnSandiego.com

Daily DUI - Sky Chef worker pulled over on tarmac

Doesn't it seem like every second day here in our Daily DUI spot that its a airport tarmarc worker that's making the news?? Here we go with another.

He wasn't pulled over on a highway or residential side street, but when he was arrested early this week, Ronald Ogembo had the telltale signs of a drunken driver: the smell of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and trouble keeping his balance, authorities said. He acknowledged that he had been driving, too - on the tarmac at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Ogembo, who has twice been convicted of drunken-driving-related offenses and whose license was revoked in January, works for Sky Chef, a caterer for major airlines. His blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit - 0.235 percent - when he was arrested Tuesday for driving a service van on the tarmac. Ogembo was charged with first-degree driving while impaired and driving after cancellation of his license.

State Sponsored Solitaire

According to this story the state of North Carolina may be considering banning solitaire on state owned machines. It seems that state workers are now perceived as having replaced leaning on brooms with playing solitaire or minesweeper. The story provides coverage of both sides of the issue, noting that playing solitaire (or other games) may provide workers with a way to burn off some stress, but that this kind of activity is likely to be perceived as time wasting. My favorite bit (especially as April 15th draws ever closer) is where the author notes that fifty percent of the time an IRS employee is on the computer they are playing games, shopping online or gambling." csmonitor.com

The 2005 NFL Draft - Consensus First Round Picks

Shawne Merriman Troy Williamson, WR, South Carolina

Everyday right here you can preview the top picks for this years big college football entry draft into the the big boys league........the NFL of course. Lets get at it. Troy Williamson, WR, South Carolina.....Could we see him go #13 to the Texans?

Though the Texans could continue to address defensive needs, the opportunity to add a speed receiver who can stretch the field, would open up the offense. Williamson had 43 catches for 835 yards, a gaudy 19.3 yard average, and seven touchdowns for the Gamecocks as a junior this season and would be a good replacement for departing Corey Bradford.

RomoCop

This is one battle I wouldn't want to be fighting. Romo is just plain crazy, and In my opinion deserves to have the book thrown at him...however here's what the lawyers are saying. Romanowskis attorney says incident was 'mutual combat'; and that the jury now must decide - Williams' attorneys said Romanowski is a temperamental "Jekyll and Hyde" character on the football field, as his upcoming biography notes in its title. They portrayed him as a liar on the stand during testimony about his retirement from the game after 16 years of professional play. Romanowski's attorney, Jeffrey Springer, acknowledged what Romanowski did to Williams was wrong but argued it was not an act for which Williams should be compensated. "This isn't about a little bit of money. This is about millions," he said. USAToday.com

Silas Out Of Cleveland

Despite having league superstar LeBron James, the Cavaliers have struggled since the all-star break, losing seven of 10 and nine straight road games, including Sunday's 105-98 loss to Toronto when James scored a franchise-record 56. Then today Paul Silas was fired as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday with his team fighting for a playoff spot after being in first place earlier in the year. NBA Lines For Tuesday
