AL East Preview

Blue Jays - Outlook for 2005: Despite the loss of Carlos Delgado, the Blue Jays should post a better record than they did in 2004. A healthy Vernon Wells and Roy Halladay should help the cause. Even though the team lacks a true power threat, the additions of Shea Hillenbrand and Canadian Corey Koskie, along with the return to health of the .300 hitting Frank Catalanotto should help keep the Blue Jays lineup potent. While the team isn't ready to compete for the top two spots in the division, they could challenge the Orioles for fourth.

D-Rays - Outlook for 05 - 2004 gave the D-Rays a first taste of real success when the club won 70 games for the first time in their seven-year history. With that being said, the D-Rays have a lot of questions heading into the season. Rocco Baldelli will miss the first few months of the season with a knee injury, and the Rays have seemed to have put the brakes on their youth movement. The Rays have also taken flyers on Denny Neagle and Hideo Nomo, both of whom look to be at the end of their careers. The Rays could very easily go back to their familiar position of last in the division.

Orioles - Outlook for 2005: On the heels of three big free agent signings and a third place finish in 2004, the Orioles found improving their team more difficult this off-season. Carl Pavano and Carlos Delgado both chose to play elsewhere, leaving the Orioles as really the only major suitor for Sammy Sosa, whom the Cubs were desperate to deal. Regardless of what Sosa has in the tank, the offence isn't the problem with the Orioles, the pitching is. A lot of things would have to break right for the O's to make the post season

Yankees - Outlook for 2005: It would be difficult to call a 101 win season a disappointment, but when you suffer the worst loss in franchise history - 22-0 against Cleveland - and then follow it up by blowing a 3-0 series lead in the ALCS to your bitter rivals the Boston Red Sox, that's what you have. Pitching was a weakness in 2004, so the Yankees promptly went out and added the highly sought after free agents Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright. To top it off, they added one of the best pitchers in the league in Randy Johnson. They should win the division and be poised to do well in the playoffs.

Bo-Sox - Outlook for 2005: Despite winning their first championship since 1918, the Red Sox made some significant moves. Gone via free agency are Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe and Orlando Cabrera replaced by David Wells, Matt Clement and Edgar Renteria. If the Red Sox have any question marks it would be their starting pitching. Will David Wells be effective in Fenway Park where his career ERA is 4.87 and can he stay healthy? While the Red Sox outclassed the Yankees in the post season, it would be nearly impossible to do it over a 162 game regular season. Second in the division seems fair enough.

Tuesday Hockey Fix

Do you miss hockey? we do!! So here's what hopefully will become our "We miss the NHL weekly hockey fix"

Old-time hockey invades Bugs-Thunder series in good ole Wichita Kansas this past weekend. Derek Laxdal emerged from the Thunder's dressing room with a cut on his forehead and a bruise on his cheek. For Scott Muscatt, of Bossier-Shreveport, it was a small cut under his left eye.And they're not even players; they're coaches. After what was a fairly clean 1-0 Thunder win in the CHL Northern Conference playoff semifinals, all heck broke loose on the ice. Players, coaches, equipment guys all went at it for close to 10 minutes, swinging and kicking. Things didn't calm down until both teams got inside their locker rooms. It's a good thing there will be five days before Game 4 of this series, which isn't just filled with bad blood but with spilled blood. Having played three games in three days, these teams need a break.

There was some acrimony in Game 2 on Friday night in Bossier City, but it went to a ridiculous extreme after Saturday's game. "I wouldn't say what happened tonight is a by-product of three games in three nights," Thunder left wing Jason Duda said. "I'd say it's a by-product of a playoff series. And you've got to remember, our last game in the regular season was against them, too. There's a lot of bad blood. They're a great hockey team, and you've got to battle. Whatever happens happens, and what happened after the game -- hopefully it will be done."

US loses world cup qualifier in Europe

Now its time for our new segment the Jim Rome Moment. Jim Rome stops by every once in a while to give us his thoughts on the wacky world of sports. Rome=Smack!!

3-28-05 -- Please visit

While the rest of you were taking in what might have been the greatest weekend of college basketball ever, I couldn’t tear myself away from that riveting U.S.-Mexico soccer match. Are these the only two soccer playing nations in the world? Why do we play Mexico every single day? And have we ever beaten these guys? Thanks to that 2-1 beat-down they laid on us, we might now miss the World Cup altogether. Good!

Nothing would make me more proud to be an American than failing to qualify for the World Cup. Good job fellas, now go celebrate that great accomplishment with some orange slices and a few crates of Capri Sun. Oh and nice touch with the chants of Osama, Osama after the win Mexico Fan.

Reality Tennis?
Serena and Venus Williams will be starring in their version of a tennis reality show. The sisters' off-court lives -- their family, friends and the glamour of big-time tennis -- will be featured in a six-episode show that is still untitled but set to premiere on ABC Family in July. "The series will provide our fans with an up-close, inside look at our lives away from the tennis courts," Venus Williams said.
The sisters have won 11 major single titles between them and are competing this week at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. Serena is ranked No. 4 in the world and Venus No. 9.Serena Williams said she and her sister welcome the chance to "branch out into a new medium."

This really doesn't sound all the interesting does it? First the bachelor, then the sluterette, then it was real road rules world racearound the world challenge...whats next? This isn't reality TV anymore. Whats real about it? How many of us will ever have the chance to be a multimillion dollar 6 foot tall 200lb tennis studette? Not many I guarantee it.

Utah's Bogut To Enter NBA Draft

This time it appears that there is nothing that coach Ray Giacoletti can say. Less than a year after Giacoletti convinced Andrew Bogut to return for his sophomore season at Utah, the Australian center announced that he will leave school to enter the NBA draft on Monday. At 7-0, Bogut is projected to be taken among the first few picks.

It took five days for The Players Championship to resemble a major. Fred Funk had to wait even longer to show he's a big-time player.

A former college golf coach and career grinder, Funk delivered clutch shots over the water and the only par putt that mattered, a five-footer on the final hole that gave him a one-shot victory Monday in the toughest final round the TPC at Sawgrass has ever had. "I can't believe it," Funk said, choking back tears. "I didn't fathom this happening."
