Nascar Fight Night

Just what all the nascar rednecks want right?? A little fighting between cousins. (They're all cousins aren't they??) Dale Earnhardt Jr. called Jimmie Johnson an "idiot" and blamed the Nextel Cup series points leader for causing a 25-car accident at Talladega Superspeedway. "If there was one idiot out there it was him," Earnhardt said during a break Tuesday in a test session at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "To be honest about it, I think Jimmie Johnson caused about all the wrecks out there."

Typical Day For Nascar

Both Earnhardt and Johnson were at the center of the massive accident in Sunday's race at Talladega that wiped out half the field and ranked as the second-largest melee in track history. ESPN.com

Paris Hilton Blog - It was inevitable

Paris Hilton wants to be the next Donald Trump. Or least the next Puff Daddy. Hilton told The New York Times that she's "trying to build an empire." She said, "Puffy is a genius." She said she looks up to him and Trump for the way they built their empires.

Hilton is into movies, TV, modeling, perfume, makeup, jewelry and records. She said she's glad she got the partying out of her system when she was young because now she can focus on her career. I've got news for you Paris.....ahhh forget it, you're to dumb to comprehend.

Paris, can you just go away now. Here is a $1, do something useful with it!!!

North Korea to Get 'Hole-in-One Green'

In an effort reminiscent of North Korean elections, a South Korean company building a golf course in the North's Geumgang Mountains has created a bizarre hole where the ball will careen into the cup as long as the golfer lands his shot anywhere on the green. "Considering the symbolism of the Diamond Country Club, which is 45 percent complete, we plan to make a 'hole-in-one green' where golfers get a hole in one as long as they put the ball on the green," said Chang Gi-dae, the chairman of Emerson Pacific which is building the course. Chosensun.com

A hole-in-one green is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Are you supposed to feel good about the ace? I can just see everyone walking off the 14th green at that course. ‘What did you have?” A one! Yeah, me too! Are you supposed to brag to your friends? ‘I made an ace on 14 at Diamond Country Club!

Hole In One Phil?

So what? Doesn't every other idiot who tees it up there hit an ace? I think this is just a scam to rip people off in the clubhouse. If you have to buy a round of drinks for everyone if you make an ace, the bar tabs in that place have to be through the roof. Bottom line, I would rather play golf every day until I'm 90 years old and never get one, than have one given to me by some rinky-dink hole-in-one-green. Terrible idea!

No Comment Lefty?

Poker Sitcom

Rumors that Janeane Garofalo has been picked to play poker celebrity Annie Duke on NBC's upcoming sitcom have been confirmed. The new series, "All In," will portray Garofalo as a single mother of three, who also plans to play poker professionally. Before Garofalo was named to play the lead role of Annie Duke, skepticism still surrounded the project, with a number of people believing that NBC would not go through with the poker-themed show.

The show will possibly make poker even more palatable to the general public than it has already become. After all, you can't get more mainstream than an NBC sitcom. Whether the show will be a hit among the poker community, however, remains to be seen. It is likely that the world of poker depicted in "All In" will be a far cry from the real poker circuit. Garofalo's film credits include "Reality Bites," "Dogma," and "The Truth About Cats & Dogs." The actress/comedian has also been on the cast of "Saturday Night Live" and "The Larry Sander's Show."

World Hockey Championships

World Championship Hockey

Joe Thornton scored two quick goals and Canada never looked back in an
8-0 victory over Slovenia on Tuesday at the IIHF world hockey championship. Brendan Morrison also scored twice while Kirk Maltby, Simon Gagne, Rick Nash and Ryan Smyth added singles in a mostly listless mismatch before a less-than-capacity crowd at the 7,140-seat Olympiahalle.

Slovenia goalie Gaber Glavic had nothing but good things to say about Team Canada after being beaten for eight goals. ''This is the top of the world, there's no better team in the world,'' he said. ''They're my favourite team. I like their attitude. I like all the smaller things they do, like giving the puck to a player after a goal. I like their mentality.'' Ya...Ok Gaber, Whatever!!

Canada and the United States, having warmed up with wins over inferior teams, and will meet Thursday in Innsbruck to decide first place in their pool at the world hockey championships in Austria. I always love this grudge matchup and I'll be skippin a few hours work on Thursday to watch the internet broadcast of this game. www.iihf.com

"It's going to be a big test for both teams," said Canadian centre Kris Draper.

NBA Recap - Tuesday Nights Games

Jermaine O'Neal had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Stephen Jackson had 15 points to lead the Indiana Pacers over the Boston Celtics, 90-85, in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at the FleetCenter. O'Neal rebounded from a poor performance in Game 4 when he scored only nine points in a 110-79 thumping at Conseco Fieldhouse, as the Pacers moved within one game of moving on to the semifinal round. The Pacers lead this best-of- seven set 3-2 and can close out Boston on Thursday in Indiana.

Richard Hamilton scored 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, as the Detroit Pistons captured their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against Philadelphia with an 88-78 victory over the 76ers in Game 5 at The Palace.
The defending champion Pistons won the best-of-seven series, 4-1, and will meet the winner of the Boston/Indiana matchup in the conference semifinals.

Ray Allen finished with 30 points and Rashard Lewis netted 24, as the Seattle SuperSonics clinched their Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Sacramento Kings with a 122-118 victory in Game 5 at KeyArena.
The Sonics won the best-of-seven series, 4-1, to advance to the conference semifinals for the first time since 1998. That year Seattle defeated Minnesota in the opening round before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the conference semis.

The Kentucky Derby Preview #5

Bet On Horses

Check back every day right here for more updates and information on the The Kentucky Derby - May 7th - at 6pm Eastern.

And then there were seven…

We’re just about ready for the 131st running of the world's most famous race, the Kentucky Derby, which will be run on May 7, 2005 at Churchill Downs. Last weekend, April 16 & 17, we concluded the final Derby prep races and it’s the first time in recent history that we don’t have a clear cut favorite due to the amount of truly talented 3-year-olds from a single year’s crop. Once again, there will most likely be a full field of 20 horses breaking from the starting gate, but regardless of how many 3-year-olds actually run in this years Run for the Roses, we can reduce the full field down to only 7 true contenders who have the pedigree, and ability, to find their way to the Winner's Circle on that first Saturday in May!

1) Afleet Alex is the most consistent colt of the lot. He has now finished first or second in 8 or his 9 lifetime starts, with a lung infection causing his only poor effort, in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park. While he is the most consistent, he is has the least pedigree power (Northern Afleet, out of a Hawkster mare) of these seven contenders on his side, including his east coast trainer, Tim Ritchey, who is far less know then the rest in this group. Don’t give up on him just yet, Ritchey is a solid trainer and his colt will enter the Kentucky Derby off an 8-length win in the $1 million dollar Arkansas Derby

2) Bandini has shown the ability to relax and rate off the leaders, which is an essential quality when racing at the classic distance of 1 ¼ miles, in his past two races. The last was a sensational 6-length victory in the Blue Grass at Keeneland. That race was full of possible Derby contenders, including High Limit, Sun King and Consolidator and Bandini has now won 3 of 5 career starts. He has already won twice at 1 1/8 miles and this son of Derby winner, Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr. Prosperctor), is out of a Dixieland Band mare and will have no questions about getting the distance.

3) Bellamy Road shocked some of the public when he romped by 17-lengths in the Wood Memorial on April 9, but he won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park by 15-lengths in his previous start! In fact, he has now won 4 of 5 career starts, and has been a true stakes caliber animal since he began his career. After breaking his maiden in his debut while never being asked to run, he immediately won a stake in his next start. Sure, some may knock that performance since it was at River Downs in Ohio, but he defeated a quality field that day, including Scipion, a multiple stakes winner that has since won the Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds. Distance won’t be a problem for this son of Concerto (Chief’s Crown) who’s female side hails from the Vice Regent line through his Dam’s father, Deputed Testamony.

4) Blues and Royals was purchased by the Godolphin racing stable for $400,000 at the Keeneland sale and immediately began his racing career in Great Britain, and then Dubai. That alone makes the Florida bred son of Honour and Glory (Relaunch) the least recognizable name to the public. Just like Bandini, he is also out of a Dixieland Band mare and bred to run all day. While I don’t agree with his connections only racing him once as a 3-year-old before running in the Kentucky Derby, his only race of 2005 was extremely impressive. Returning from a 6-month layoff, he added blinkers and raced on a dirt surface for the first time in his short four race career, only to defeat a 12 horse Grade-2 field by a stunning 12-lengths! His pedigree suggests that he’ll be better on the dirt then the turf, and that dirt debut may have proved it.

5) Greeley’s Galaxy has now won four consecutive races after capturing the Illinois Derby by 9-lengths while earning a Beyer speed figure of 106. This son of Mr. Greeley (Gone West), out of an Ascot Knight mare might have the best endurance pedigree of this group, and is peaking at just the right time as he’s been prepping under the radar out at Santa Anita in California. He defeated solid fields while breaking his maiden and first allowance condition at Santa Anita. While the public may consider him a notch below the top Derby prospects, we really don’t know how good he is since no horse has been within 3 ½ -lengths of him since his debut!

6) High Fly has done just about everything asked of him to this point, including winning 5 of his 6 career races, but is considered trainer Nick Zito’s “other” horse! This Kentucky bred son of Atticus (Nureyev) has never left the confines of the Florida circuit, but made his mark there, taking names while capturing the Aventura Stakes, the Fountain of Youth, and the Florida Derby. While he doesn’t own some of those gaudy Beyer speed figures as some of his foes, he has also never earned less than a 94 Beyer speed figure in his six race career!

7) High Limit won his first three consecutive races in hand, but those victories came at lesser circuits such as Delaware Park. Before his third victory he was switched over to the barn of trainer Bobby Frankel and immediately went wire-to-wire while earning a 105 Beyer speed figure in route to capturing the Louisiana Derby. He lead every step of the way that day at the Fairgrounds, a track known for its extremely long stretch drive, which makes that performance even more interesting to industry insiders. He’ll enter the Kentucky Derby off his first loss, in the Blue Grass, but you can be sure that trainer Bobby Frankel knew that was just a prep, with the Churchill Downs’ Winner’s Circle being the real target.
