Live Preakness Betting Online
Five stakes races, topped by the $500,000 Pimlico Special (Grade 1) and the $200,000 Black-Eyed Susan (G2), highlight Friday’s 12-race prelude to the Preakness at Pimlico Race Course.

In addition to the Special for older horses and the Black-Eyed Susan for 3-year-old fillies, the Friday card also offers the $150,000 Pimlico Distaff Breeders’ Cup (G3), which drew champion filly Ashado; the $100,000 Adena Stallions’ Miss Preakness Stakes (G3), and the $75,000 The Very One Stakes. The Pimlico Special, a wide-open betting event at a mile and three-sixteenths, drew a field of nine for its 39th running, with Badge of Silver rated a slight favorite over Eddington, Offlee Wild and Funny Cide, the 2003 Preakness winner. Other prominent runners include Pollard’s Vision and Second of June. Wagering on the Special – and on the Pimlico Special-Preakness Double – will start on Thursday. Betting on the Double, a $2 wager, will be available until post time for the Special on Friday, currently set at 5:43 p.m.

AFLEET ALEX – While a couple of other highly regarded contenders for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes had workouts at Churchill Downs Tuesday, Afleet Alex enjoyed a relatively relaxing morning at Pimlico Racecourse, where he jogged a mile and a half and galloped a mile and a half.

Trainer Tim Ritchey will follow the lead of John Servis, the trainer of 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones, and send his third-place Derby finisher into the middle jewel of the Triple Crown without a workout between races. “A lot of times you can run a horse back in two weeks if he’s only run once or twice off a layoff. But when a horse has run as much as most of these horses have, my feeling is you want them to come into this race off two weeks fresh. That’s why I’m not going to breeze him. He’s just going to gallop up to the race. Smarty Jones did the same thing,” Ritchey said. “A lot of times you take a little bit of the edge off of them by breezing them. Even though my horse came out of the race very well, he’s still in a recuperating phase, still coming back to himself, trying to get strong.”

Cash Is King LLC’s Afleet Alex has had the Preakness Stakes barn to himself since being shipped from Kentucky on May 11, but the son of Northern Afleet will be getting lots of company on Wednesday, when the majority of his rivals will arrive from Kentucky and New York. “He’s trained a lot more than the other horses over that track. Tracks are all different. Even though they might be slightly the same, they have little differences. The more they train over that particular racetrack, I think it’s an advantage. We’ll find out Saturday,” said Ritchey, who will name Jeremy Rose to return to the saddle aboard Afleet Alex when entries are taken on Wednesday morning.

ESPN Writer 'Tased,' Arrested for DUI - DUI of the Day
Respected? Not anymoreA respected racing journalist faces charges of drunk driving and resisting arrest after a police chase on the north side early Tuesday morning.

Bruce Martin, an ESPN correspondent, is in town covering the race. The car he was driving was totaled.

It’s easy to spot the bright yellow pace vehicles around town. The 2005 Chevy SSR's are event cars for this year’s Indy 500 and the Month of May festivities.

Police spotted Bruce Martin, a freelance racing journalist, a contributing editor to and other publications, driving one of the cars around 3:00am. A sheriff's deputy chased Martin west on Kessler and 56th Street for two miles.

The police report says Martin's pace vehicle, assigned to him for the month, was dragging one of its front tires underneath it with sparks flying. The two-mile pursuit ended on west 56th Street, but Martin refused to get out of the car. One deputy broke out a window and used a taser on him. He then failed a field sobriety test registering .22, nearly three times the legal limit for alcohol.

Way to go Bruce. You may want to look for a new day job now. Typical.
