NBA Action
The mismatches favoured the Detroit Pistons, and the defending champions kept finding and exploiting them. Whether it was Tayshaun Prince outsizing Dwyane Wade, Rasheed Wallace taking his man outside or Chauncey Billups getting the better of Damon Jones, the Detroit Pistons played calmly and intelligently for 48 minutes and defeated the Miami Heat 90-81 Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Miami had Shaquille O'Neal back in its lineup after waiting almost until tip-off to find out whether he could play with a bruised right thigh. He opened the game by making his first four shots, but Detroit's defence kept the Heat from running their offence through O'Neal for the rest of the game, and the big man wasn't all that much of a factor while scoring 20 points on 9-for-14 shooting with five rebounds. Wade also played relatively poorly for the Heat, scoring just 16 points on 7-for-25 shooting while being frustrated for much of the night by Prince's defense.

The Indy 500 Rides This Weekend

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built on 328 acres of farmland five miles northwest of Indiana's capital city in the spring of 1909. Financed by four local businessmen, Carl Fisher, James Allison, Frank Wheeler and Arthur Newby, it was planned as a year-round testing facility for the fast-growing automobile industry in Indiana. Occasional race meets would be presented at the track, featuring those very same manufacturers racing their products against each other.

May 29 - INDYCAR, Indianapolis 500, Indianapolis, Indiana Indy 500

Spectators, it was reasoned, would be sufficiently impressed as to want to head downtown quickly to the showrooms for a closer look at one of these new-fangled contraptions. Four turns, each banked at nine degrees and 12 minutes and measuring exactly 440 yards from entrance to exit, were linked together by a pair of long straights and, at the north and south ends of the property, by a pair of short straights to form a rectangular-shaped 2 ½ mile track as dictated by the confines of the available land. With the original surface of crushed rock and tar proving to be disastrous at the opening motorcycle and automobile racing events in August of 1909, 3,200,000 paving bricks were imported by rail from the western part of the state in the fall, laid on their sides in a bed of sand and fixed with mortar, this inspiring the nickname "The Brickyard". Poor attendance at a trio of three-day meets on the revamped surface in 1910 caused the owners to rethink their plans and focus instead on a single event for 1911. They envisioned it as an event of gigantic proportions offering a huge purse. On May 30 - Memorial Day - a grueling 500-Mile race paying $14,250 to win took place, enjoying instant success and attracting universal recognition…and making history as the inaugural Indianapolis 500.

With the exception of an additional program of racing on a single day in September 1916, no race other than the Indianapolis 500 was to be held at the Speedway until a tremendously successful NASCAR stock car event, the Brickyard 400, debuted in 1994. The 500 was suspended during America's involvement in the two world wars, 1917-1918 and 1942-1945, but held in all other years. Asphalt was first applied to the rougher portions of the track in 1936, and by 1941 all but the greater part of the mainstraight had become blacktop. The remainder of the bricks were finally covered over in the fall of 1961. Most of the original paving bricks are still in place underneath the modern asphalt surface, with only the famous "yard of bricks" still exposed at the start/finish line as a nostalgic reminder of the past. The track has changed ownership only twice. With Carl Fisher heavily involved in the development of Miami Beach and Jim Allison's nearby engineering company growing rapidly, the foursome sold IMS in 1927 to a group headed up by WWI flying ace Eddie Rickenbacker. Rickenbacker had actually driven in several 500s before he ever knew how to fly. One of Rickenbacker's first actions was to install an 18-hole golf course on the grounds in 1929, now known as Brickyard Crossing and home of a Senior PGA Tour golf tournament, the Brickyard Crossing Championship, in September.

Allowed to fall into a terrible state of disrepair as a result of four years of neglect during WWII, the Speedway was purchased in 1945 by Terre Haute, Indiana, businessman Anton "Tony" Hulman, Jr. He immediately embarked on a phenomenal rejuvenation program that began the transformation of the facility into what it is today. Hulman passed away in October 1977, but to this day members of his family perpetuate the traditions of the Speedway - now encompassing 559 acres - while continuing to transform it beyond the wildest imaginations of its founders. The Hulman-George family continues to own and operate the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Mari Hulman George serving as Chairman of the Board and Anton "Tony" George serving as President and Chief Executive Officer.

The French Open - Tennis Gambling Online

Third-seeded Marat Safin of Russia advanced to the second round of the French Open with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win Tuesday over Raemon Sluiter of the Netherlands. Safin, a two-time Grand Slam winner, has not been beyond a quarter-final in any tournament since winning the Australian Open at the start of the year. He has 15 career titles and next plays qualifier Lukas Dlouhy of the Czech Republic. After being tied 2-2 in the fourth set, Safin twice broke Sluiter's serve and closed out the match.

Safin's best showing at Roland Garros was a defeat to Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain in the 2002 semifinals. He missed the following year's tournament through injury and last year lost to Argentina's David Nalbandian in the fourth round.

Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero, the 2003 champion, cruised into the second round with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win over Karol Beck of Slovakia. A former world No. 1, Ferrero is seeded 32nd this year and his match against Beck was relegated to an outlying court in the Roland Garros complex.

Tillman's Family Lashes Out In The Media
Pat Tillman Pat Tillman's parents lashed out at the Army's investigation into Tillman's friendly-fire death in Afghanistan last year.

In interviews conducted by the Washington Post, Tillman's mother and father said they believe the military and the government created a heroic tale about how their son died to foster a patriotic response across the country.

"Pat had high ideals about the country; that's why he did what he did." Mary Tillman told the Washington Post. "The military let him down. The administration let him down. It was a sign of disrespect.

"The fact that he was the ultimate team player and he watched his own men kill him is absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. The fact that they lied about it afterward is disgusting." Pat Tillman gave up a career in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to join the U.S. Army Rangers with his brother.

Poker Yokes!!
Keep your eyes on right things

Two bored casino dealers are waiting at a craps table. A very attractive brunette comes in and wants to bet ten thousand dollars on a single roll of the dice.
She says, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm not wearing a top." With that said she pulls off her top and rolls the dice while screaming, "Momma needs a new blouse." She then begins jumping up and down and hugging each of the dealers. "YES! I win - I win." She grabs up her money and top and quickly leaves the table.
The dealers just stare at each other dumbfounded. Finally one of them asks, "What did she roll anyway?" The other answers, "I thought you were watching!"

Tipping the Dealer

A blackjack dealer and a player with a thirteen count in his hand were arguing about whether or not it was appropriate to tip the dealer.

The player said, "When I get bad cards, it's not the dealer's fault. Accordingly, when I get good cards, the dealer obviously had nothing to do with it so, why should I tip him?"

The dealer said, "When you eat out do you tip the waiter?"

"Well then, he serves you food, I'm serving you cards so you should tip me."

"Okay, but, the waiter gives me what I ask for. I'll take an eight.

The Rules Of Baccarat
Baccarat is a simple game with only three betting options: the players hand, the dealers hand, or a tie. The winning hand is whoever holds 2 or 3 cards totaling closest to 9. A bet on the players hand pays 1 to 1, a bet on the dealers hand pays 1 to 1 (plus 5% to the house) and a tie results in a 9 to 1 win. After the initial bet, no more bets are placed.

The value of cards are: tens and face cards equal 0, aces count as 1, and cards 2 - 9 are face value.

After all bets have been placed, the dealer continues to deal a 2 card/face up hand to every player and the dealer. If a tie occurs in the game, all tie bets are paid and the hand is over. If anyone recieves 2 cards totaling 9, it is considered a "natural" and the holder automatically wins. If no one is holding a natural 9, a hand with an 8 becomes a natural winner. If any player recieves a 9 or 8 off the bat they automaticly win (unless the dealer holds a 9 and the player an 8).

If, after the first 2 cards are dealt, no one holds an 8 or 9, and there are no ties, a third card may be dealt depending on the total.

If more cards are dealt after the initial 2, the player's hand is dealt first (only if he is holding a total of 0-5). After the player is done, the banker has some options depending on the players hand. If the player did not draw a 3rd card, the banker is only dealt another card to a hand of 0-4. If the player did draw a 3rd card, the banker has the options as described in the table above.

Card Values
Ace 1
2-9 face value
Ten / Face Cards 0

We do not recommend the tie bet, although it looks appealing with a 9 to 1 payout, it still holds a conciderable house advantage.

NFL Rumor Central

According to's Len Pasquarelli, no fewer than nine teams have confirmed interest in signing Peter Boulware, released by the Ravens earlier this month. Boulware's agent puts the number of interested teams at 14 but said the veteran linebacker is in no hurry to decide.

The Bears released Paul Edinger on Sunday, and reports out of Chicago immeditately named the Titans and Vikings as the most likely landing places for the fifth-leading scorer in Bears history. Chicago signed Doug Brien earlier this offseason, virtually assuring Edinger's eventual departure.

While the hand injury to RB Chris Brown prompted speculation the Titans might need to make a run at acquiring Henry, Pro Football Weekly cites sources who indicate the team is in no hurry to make a deal. In fact, the sources say Tennessee might not be willing to part with a first-day pick in next year's draft, said to be Buffalo's asking price.

Released by the Cardinals last week, Shelton already has met with the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Titans do, indeed, plan to release Lance Schulters after June 1. Previous reports out of Nashville indicated Schulters was staying away from offseason workouts, both to rehab his injured foot and to protect his market value in case the team decided to release him.

Jerry Rice spoke with Mike Shanahan on Wednesday about playing for the Broncos in 2005, according to the Denver Post. Rice and Shanahan worked together from 1992-94 when Shanahan was the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator.

Brian Westbrook, who is in the process of switching agents, is expected to sign his $1.43 million restricted free agent tender and attend the Eagles June 1st minicamp for veterans. Westbrook is seeking a lucrative long-term contract and didn't participate in the post-NFL draft camp.

Williams To Return To The Dolphins

Ricky Williams

Ricky Williams will report to Dolphins training camp in July, according to his agent, Leigh Steinberg. Steinberg told the Palm Beach Post that Williams "absolutely" plans to rejoin the Dolphins after retiring prior to last season. "Ricky's made the decision he wants to play again," Steinberg told the Post.

Steinberg added that Williams' strong rapport with new Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban is part of the reason why he was contemplating a return. Steinberg also said that Williams and Saban have had "some steady dialogue in the last 10 days," but would not discuss specifics or detail what would have to transpire in the coming weeks for the NFL's leading rusher in 2002 to rejoin the Dolphins.
