The Big 12 Report - Tony George - Football Handicapper Picks

TEXAS @ OHIO STATE- Could there be a bigger game this weekend, with national implications? Texas rolled up 60 points against a patsy in Austin this weekend, while Ohio State took care of Miami of Ohio by 20 in non-dramatic fashion. The KEY for Texas is, can they with Mac Brown as head coach, win a big one? Columbus is a very tough place to play and they locals will be rabid for this one. This is a "pick'em" game right now, but expect Texas QB Vince Young to be tested against a Buckeye secondary, and how he does will determine the outcome for sure. Too close to call.

It should be a great weekend of college football, and the Ohio State and Texas game should be a thriller on Saturday Night. Good luck and enjoy all the games.

NFL BETTING PREVIEWS WEEK 1

Oakland Raiders (0-0-0) at New England Patriots (0-0-0)
Thursday, September 08, 2005 9:00 PM EDT
NFL Betting Preview - Field - Grass - Gillette Stadium - Foxboro, New England

The New England Patriots start their quest for yet another Super Bowl championship on Thursday night when they face the Oakland Raiders in the league’s kickoff game. The Patriots sit at 7.5-point home favorites in this contest. The total has been pegged by oddsmakers at 50. There was some change in New England in the offseason. Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis left the team to take over as head coach at Notre Dame, and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel took the Browns’ head coaching job. It remains to be seen how much head coach Bill Belichick will miss his top two assistants. In Oakland, the biggest change was the addition of WR Randy Moss, who immediately gives the team one of the league’s best receiving corps. The Pats ended up a 2-2 in the preseason, scoring 80 points and also allowing 80 points in those four games. The Raiders were 1-3 in exhibition contests.

Heart disease caused Herrion's death

Herrion

San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Thomas Herrion had heart disease and evidence of previous heart trouble when he collapsed and died after a pre-season game last month, an official in the Denver County coroner's office said Tuesday.

The coroner's findings confirmed the beliefs of Herrion's family and friends, who were certain drugs played no role in Herrion's death Aug. 20. Herrion's heart condition was caused by factors that are often nearly undetectable, though fairly rare in a 23-year-old athlete in good physical condition.

I for one am glad this news came like this. Hopefully, now people can really get off the idea that all BIG NFL players are overweight, or that drugs or steroids were involved in any way.''
